I grew up hating cranberry sauce.
Little did I know that it didn't have to look or taste like the gross jelly that was served every Thanksgiving. When I was older (much older) I had homemade cranberry sauce it was delicious it complemented the turkey wonderfully. Then come to find out it is simple to make. This year I made my own and it was easy and delicious. I think what is so puzzling to me is that my Nana and Papa were in walking distance to multiple cranberry bogs and could probably have bought fresh cranberries at a moments notice. However, this was not to be done! This family only eats cranberry sauce from a can! This is what we have done for generations and damn it we will not try something else! Fresh homemade sauce?! That's ridiculous!
How did we pull it off. The children of the "can" have all stepped outside the boundaries of tradition and moved into the world of fresh made cranberry sauce. We have broken free, the sky is the limit, who knows what may fall next Land-O-Lakes your history, Bon-Ami see you later. This strange Family-based brand loyalty is offically dead.

Whoo-hoo! Rock on T-C!
Yesterday I made a sweet ginger cranberry sauce--the tang coming from the cranberries and ginger and the sweet coming from maple syrup--Mom really liked it, she said she couldn't believe how "complex" the flavors were...who knows what you can do when you break away from the can!
Brand free heaven in 2007!
love, Ka
Sadly, I too grew up with canned cranberry sauce, which was difficult to look at let alone eat. When a guest brought homemade cranberry sauce to our table years ago, it was the dawn of a new day. Real cranberry sauce is wonderfully sweet and tangy. I wouldn't dream of going without it now. Not only was your rendition superb, TC, but your apple pie was outstanding too. Thank you! -S xo
I actually had homemade Cranberry sauce this year. I still am not a huge fan, but it tastes sooo much better than the gel with the dents in the side.
Cranberry sauce can actually be eaten with a spoon, not a knife and fork!
I agree, we are busting away from the brand name crap we grew up with. Lunchmeat does not have to come in a "tear here" package.
