Television......................

2kool's most recent post was all about TV watching. I think she has hit on a great blog topic, life topic even. Television, the medium we hate to love and love to hate and love to love. Anyhow here are some of my thoughts around the shows I currently watch whether I want to or not.

-My guilty pleasure show is: Desperate Housewives. What a piece of soap operatic trash!! I love it.
-My reality TV shows: The Apprentice. You gotta love "The Donald". However, I feel that this show is fading fast. But I'll hang on for this season, you know just to keep in the know. The other reality TV show I watch is "The Amazing Race". Not much to say about this one. I just love to see the couples bicker.
-The show I'd love to stop watching: ER. Been watching this one from the beginning and am attached to the characters. I can't seem to let them go. I really should. The show sucks.
-Then there is HBO. "It's not TV it's HBO." Like Larry David said "Come on of course it's TV we are watching it on TV." Anyhow the shows are of better quality and I love 'em. The ones I watch are: The Larry David Show, Six Feet Under, Entourage and The Sapranos.

That is a shit load of TV. I gotta stop this! Not to mention that on some nights I'm watching TV just to relax. That's no good. I complain about having no time and being really tired. Cutting out TV would open up huge amounts of time for me to get things done or to sleep. Now I know I'll never cut TV out of my life but maybe I can reduce my viewing time. I should at least start with eliminating the junk watching time. I'll try, maybe.

Okay, t.v.

Well, right now I have to say my favorite show is Gilmore Girls--I watch the reruns--it comes on at a perfect time during the day...when I need a nap, or am about to start dinner, or do some dishes...so I watch and work, or I watch and relax.

I used to love The West Wing--but now they're really preparing for the next stage of that show...I still am a faithful watcher, but I'm getting ready to let go. I mean, part of the reason I really love this show is because for one hour a week I really can pretend we have this smart, liberal president. Enough said about that.

The only reality show I've ever watched is the one I'm watching right now...it's Project Runway on Bravo. I do wish they would show the making of the dresses a bit more detail....but what has caught me is one designer and the hopes he gets to the final competition (for anyone who watches, obviously it's Austin Scarlett!)

I have to say, I really like to knit when I watch tv--that way it's not like completely lost time.

Anyways, love it hate. Yes.

Tony C., trade in your ER for 20 cc's of the Gilmore Girls, stat! I credit Princess Kathylee of Shakopee for opening my eyes to the genius of this show. The dialogue is like the wholesome WB version of a David Mamet play -- it's all rapid-fire high- and low-cultural references. Lorelai will namecheck Georgia O'Keefe in the same sentence as Carrot Top.

I wonder if Ka agrees with me that the show is much weaker this season. Jason (from last season) was much better for Lorelai than Luke. Luke isn't witty enough for her. He's a palooka. A "project center" in basketball terms. And Emily and Richard's bickering is getting tiresome.

p.s. I feel like protesting the presidential inauguration. But how? Some people are talking about wearing all black. Others all red. Still others say don't spend any money tomorrow. It's all very confusing. No wonder we lost the election -- we can't even get our protesting coordinated. Sigh.

Also: I think The Kid might really like my favorite show growing up. See if she can catch it on a Sunday rerun.

And a quick salue to what we all know is Ka's favorite show.

Stay Golden, Ka Ka,

Well, sadly, I have to admit that I haven't watched the Golden Girls in a long while...but perhaps it's because I really know almost all the shows by heart. Well, those girls--so sassy!

Interestingly, my husband thinks there must be something special about the double G's--Golden Girls, Gilmore Girls--both top hits with me!

Well, as far as the Gilmore Girls...I am a season behind--our WB turns to Christian programming at 7 p.m. so I'm stuck to reruns. Actually, I'm just getting into the season with Jason--to tell the truth...I don't think he's cute enough for Lauralai. He's witty, yes. But he's also bordering on sleazy, I think--that weird modern house of his--the separate bedrooms? I dunno. I wonder if I missed some shows because why, after Rory graduated, didn't LL go back with the teacher? But as for the potential of Luke....I like his gruff manner, his health-obsessed way of life. We'll just have to see.

Okay, I am pretty obsessed.

Hey biG--cool links! I forgot all about BJ.

love, Ka

Gotta weigh in...

Yep, still watching "The Apprentice" although if past patterns prove consistent, I will lose interest at about week 3 and tune in for the last episode.

I quit "West Wing" and "ER" last year- we recorded many, many episodes but never wanted to watch them. So this year we don't even tune in.

The bulk of our TV time is spent viewing HGTV (with Mission:Organization and Weekend Warriors at the top of the list) or TLC (What not to wear; In a Fix) and the true guilty pleasure: VH1 "I Love the 80's" (or really we'll watch any decade).

I have a friend who LOVES Gilmour Girls but hasn't convinced me to watch it- she did, however, get another mutual friend hooked and I know that they discuss it in depth.

The 2 shows I used to be able to watch but are not on at convenient times for my current lifestyle: Judge Judy and Pardon the Interruption on ESPN.

Finally, I am a "Golden Girls" fan, too- my husband can't believe that A. I would choose to watch it and B. I am still entertained by ones I have seen over and over again.

P.S. I fear the day I finally give in to the husband and get Tivo; this list will be much longer- and even more trashy- if that should ever come to pass.
