My sister and her husband have two cats and a dog. These animals don't know how good they have it. When I first arrived I was shocked at how mellow their dog was (blog name: MellowYellow). Then after a short time I came to realize what was going on. MellowYellow doesn't have to do a thing. If she's on the couch and she drops her chew toy she just throws a sad glance to my sister or brother in-law and they happily pick it up. Often the help is accompanied by something like this: "Ohhh, my poor baby. I'll get that for you". I mean, of course the dog is mellow she's living in hog heaven. Our dogs are crazy compared to MellowYellow and the reason may be because by comparison they are living in a state of lock down.
I guess I really can't comment as much on the cats. They definitely didn't make as large of an impact on me as the dog. However they do seem to have the run of the place and I imagine this keeps them very happy.

Well as MellowYellow's human, I feel compelled to write. We do have a real sense that we should spoil MellowYellow--she's had a hard life--er, that is, her life before coming to live with us was hard. Somehow she got lost from her first owners (and of course there are other possiblities). When my sister-in-law and nephew picked her out from the pound she was so matted and filthy that she had to be shaved (this suggests she was foraging on her own for a bit--perhaps the reason for some of her weird eating tendencies?). Then life at that house, well, let's just say it wasn't ideal--they didn't have the time to give her any attention and I know for a fact she was kicked (at least once). She wasn't even home (at our house) for five minutes when she started bleeding--we rushed her to the vet (and luckily we have the best vet in the world--Dr. Smitley at Milwood Animal clinic and cohorts--real names b/c I don't fool around with petcare and give praise where it's due) and she was rushed into emergency surgery. After all that we think she deserves to be pampered. Besides, she's cute and a good dog.
Well, that's enough for now, I guess. Maybe more on this later.
love, Ka
Obviously MellowYellow is in a perpetual state of well-deserved bliss as all companions should be. Perhaps Tony C is overwhelmed by guilt over the good ol'days when Mr. B ruled the roost with a delicately pampered paw. Back when his white fur gleamed; doggie birthday parties, the gifts, the greeting cards, sharing a pillow w/CEO. Poor Mr. B, he never saw it coming. Poor S-Man doesn't know there's more to life than this. It's sad. And it really reminds me... I should let them out of the basement now.
